Ground rules for the grounds

Policies

Weather & rain delay

Light rain, we play. Lightning clears the lanes until 30 minutes after the last strike; the director can compress the format to finish the day. If the day is lost entirely, teams choose a full refund or a locked spot for 2028.

Alcohol

The grounds follow the posted licence for the day, published with the venue announcement. Coolers are checked at the gate. Family event first, always.

Family-friendly expectations

This grew out of a family fun day and it stays one. Kids are welcome everywhere but the throwing lanes during play, and language on the lanes stays legion-hall acceptable. The Ruby Rule applies.

Accessibility

Level grounds, accessible parking and washrooms, and seating along every lane. Specific needs? Email us and we'll sort it. Nobody watches from the parking lot.

Full waivers and legal policies live on the policies page, signed during team registration.

Quick answers

Asked often

I've never played washer toss. Can we still enter?

Absolutely. Half the field learns the finer points that morning. If you can toss a washer 21 feet in roughly the right direction, you're qualified. The rulebook takes five minutes to read.

What's a suey?

A washer landing all the way in the centre cup. Three points, unlimited bragging, and yes, you're allowed to yell it. The word matters around here; use it correctly and you'll fit right in.

When and where is it?

Saturday, August 14, 2027, in Miramichi, New Brunswick. Check-in opens 8:00 AM, first toss at 10:00 AM, awards around 4:15 PM. The exact grounds are announced when registration opens.

How much does it cost to enter?

$60 per two-person team ($50 early-bird until June 15, 2027). That covers at least four games, participation medals, and a shot at the $500 first prize.

What should we bring?

Sunscreen, a lawn chair, and your throwing arm. Tournament washers and boxes are provided. Camp chairs and shade tents are welcome along the lanes.

Is it family-friendly? Can I bring the kids?

Yes, and please do. This whole thing grew out of a family fun day, and it stays one. The grounds are family-friendly all day, the midway has ice cream and kettle corn, and the awards ceremony is built for a crowd.
